Angenieux Sponsors First Rendezvous with French Cinema Film Festival in Singapore
Angenieuxdemonstrated its support for French cinema as a sponsor of the recent First Rendezvous with French Cinema Film Festival in Singapore, taking the opportunity to showcase the contribution of high-end lenses to the art of filmmaking. At the festival, Angenieux organized master classes for Singaporean and other cinema students to present the company’s lenses and to give students the opportunity to ask questions relating to filmmaking.
Recognized across the world for their exceptional optical and mechanical qualities, Angenieuxzoom lenses are considered to be the industry standard. Angenieux lenses are regularly utilized on the movie industry’s most acclaimed film productions, including on many of the films selected for the festival, such as A Happy Event (director of photography: Antoine Monod), Sarah’s Key (Pascal Ridao), The Well Digger’s Daughter (Jean-François Robin), The Monk (Patrick Blossier), Free Men (Jérôme Almeras) and The Minister (Julien Hirsch).
“Film festivals and their related activities are a powerful way to both educate and entertain devotees of cinema,” said Dominique Rouchon, International Sales Director, Thales Angenieux. “We at Angenieuxare pleased to provide our support to the Singapore festival and to help them bring the best of French cinema to a wider audience.”
Film students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Nanyang Technological University School of Art, Design and Media who attended master classes were offered insights and demonstrations of Angenieuxzoom lenses. They were also able to learn from the experiences of Remi Bezançon, Director; Pio Marmaï, Actor and Antoine Monod, DoP, who presented their movie A Happy Event and later answered questions from the audience.
Cinematographer Monod spoke at length about his experiences with the Angenieuxlenses. He said, “On all of my latest movies, I’ve primarily used the Optimo 24-290mm zoom lens. It perfectly matches even the best of the still lenses. I’ve also just finished the 3D short film Eve with a set of two matching Optimo DP 16-42mm lenses. We wouldn’t have been able to make this movie without them because 3D movies require many very precise camera adjustments each time we change the focal. Making the adjustments can take as much as an hour but thanks to the Optimo 3D ready lenses, the focal change is nearly instantaneous. We can double the number of takes in one day.”
Dr. Raymond Ferris Abelin, a past director for Singapore’s leading entrepreneurship and innovation programs and member of the Directors Guild of America, was also a featured speaker during the master classes. Dr. Abelin characterized Angenieuxzoom lens products as “key to reaching the highest cinema standards and achieving international recognition for Singaporean cinematographers.”
Singapore is committed to becoming an international media hub and offers numerous degree programs for cinema students. Held December 8-13, 2011 in Singapore, the First Rendezvous with French CinémaFilm Festival promoted the latest French films to international and Asian audiences and offered a business platform for French and regional industry players to network with each other.
