Barco, a global leader in visualization technology, today announced that the company has won five awards in the 2011 China Radio and Television Equipment Industrial Association's (CRTA) Science and Technology Innovation Award ceremony in Beijing.

Arts Alliance Media (AAM), a leading digital cinema provider, and Barco, the global Digital Cinema Technology Leader, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to offer a financial leasing program to exhibitors across Europe to convert to digital cinema. The fund, named the Barco Leasing Program, has a provision for up toEuro100m and will offer financing packages to cinemas looking to convert from 35mm to digital. The offer is supported by ING Lease Belgium.

The latest deployment follows on the heels of successful installations of Barco's DP2K and DP4K digital cinema projectors in Florida and North Carolina. The company's brand new theater, which opened December 20 in Deltona, Florida, now boasts the area's only cinema with two 69-ft, large-format “Epic XL” auditoriums featuring RealD XLW 3D. Barco installed 12 screens at this location, including six 3D auditoriums, bringing the total to 69 Barco projectors deployed throughout the circuit.

Barco, world record holder for the brightest digital cinema projector, is teaming with museum cinema integration pioneer D3D Cinema to showcase an unprecedented array of “industry-first” digital cinema technologies. Demonstrations of Barco's large-format, premium screen solution – including Enhanced 4K DLP Cinema® 3D, a comparison of high frame rate movie presentations, Auro-3D multi-channel three dimensional audio system, and other innovations – will be presented to industry experts at the 2nd Annual Moody Gardens Digital Cinema Symposium from January 9-10, 2012 in Galveston, Texas.

Barco, a key player in digital cinema technology, has teamed up with media block technology leader Doremi to bring the first DCI-compliant 3D sound system to the cinema market. Auro-3D®, powered by Barco and Auro Technologies, is an audio system that creates true 3-dimensional sound. Doremi will integrate the Auro-3D® codec in their Integrated Media Block (IMB) to create the first DCI-compliant multi-channel audio format for cinema exhibitors. In addition, the Auro-3D® codec allows for single inventory distribution compatible with current and future standards.

Visualization pioneer Barco and digital cinema partner Nevafilm are proud to announce that they have successfully installed Auro-3D, a truly immersive audio technology to reproduce sound in 3D, at Jam Hall cinema in St Petersburg, Russia. In combination with 3D images, Auro-3D encapsulates movie fans even more within the action. With this installation, Jam Hall is one of the first cinemas worldwide and the first in Europe to be able to offer this new experience to its movie fans.

On display at this year's NAB show, will be a visually rich wall of content enabled by Barco's latest event projectors and LED displays, driven by recently upgraded display presentation systems.

Digital Cinema Pioneer Barco once again turned in impressive results in the Greater China market, finishing 2010 with an install base of more than 3200 Digital Cinema projectors. In the first quarter of 2011, Barco received new orders for more than 1500 units in Greater China, with its marketshare remaining over 65%. To continue to meet this strong market demand, the production capacity of Barco’s Beijing plant was increased from 200 to 500 Digital Cinema Projectors per month.

Barco's sequel to achieving the Guinness World Record for brightest projector, among a long list of “industry firsts,” entails a significant expansion into theater management solutions featuring the latest technologies in content creation and management, digital signage, and enhanced training and customer services. These will be unveiled at CinemaCon, the official convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), March 28-31, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
